2014 Honorary Fellows Spring Luncheon

Retired Col. Wayne Sirmon was inducted into the University of Mobile Honorary Fellows at the annual luncheon held May 14 at Heron Lakes Country Club. Along with being presented a UMobile lapel pin and coin, he was given a framed Honorary Fellows certificate presented by Bill Hart, associate vice president for development.

Dr. William K. Weaver Jr., founding president of Mobile College, established what was then the Association of Honorary Fellows to encourage and support the development of the university. Sirmon now joins 10 other active Honorary Fellows members.

Sirmon has been a lecturer at UMobile since 2010 and has taught western civilization, U.S. history and world regional geography. He is involved in events such as the University of Mobile Leadership Banquet, Charitable Estate Planning programs, Ram Run and numerous performing arts events. He is also involved with his church and the Boy Scouts of America.

Born and raised in Mobile, Alabama, he attended W.P. Davidson High School and earned a Bachelor of Science in science education from the University of South Alabama and a Master of Arts in physics education from the University of Alabama in Birmingham. He was an Army ROTC Cadet, was inducted into the Scabbard & Blade Honor Society and received the Distinguished Military Graduate Award. He retired as a colonel with a record of excellence in the United States Army, United States Army Reserve and the National Guard.

He is married to Maryella Desak Sirmon. They have two sons, William Desak Sirmon and John Nathan Sirmon.
